Beth A. Alvarez, LCSW

 

Beth Alvarez, LCSW (she/her) is a licensed clinical social worker with over 20 years of clinical and leadership experience. She has a passion for clinical supervision and mentorship, as well as providing culturally-responsive mental health support and treatment to individuals and families with a variety of mental health concerns.

Before joining the faculty at KPSAHS’s Masters in Counseling Program, Beth was the senior behavioral health manager at a satellite clinic of Kaiser Permanente's Department of Psychiatry in downtown Oakland, where she was responsible for the development and operationalization of various outpatient programs including the (DREAM) Depression Treatment Program, the Work Stress Recovery Program, Couples Programming, La Clinica services for the Latinx community, and the Older Adults Program. She oversaw marriage and family therapists, clinical social workers, psychologists, licensed psychiatric technicians and mental health trainees.

Prior to her role as a clinical manager, Beth spent over 15 years of her professional career in various roles as a psychotherapist at Kaiser Richmond’s Department of Psychiatry. There she practiced on the Clinical Case Management Team, Behavioral Medicine Team, Adult Team, Initial Assessment Team and Perinatal Wellness Team. She provided psychotherapeutic services to individuals and families with depression, anxiety, life stressors, peripartum issues, domestic violence, substance use/abuse, phase of life issues, psychotic illness and bipolar illness. She has also facilitated a number of psychoeducational and support/process groups, including those for depression and bipolar illnesses, CBT for psychosis, peripartum support and multifamily groups for patients with severe mental illness.

Beth has spent many years as a clinical supervisor, mentor, and training director within Kaiser Psychiatry and in collaboration with the Kaiser Northern California Mental Health Training Program. She has supervised both pre- and post- Master’s trainees, and served as the training director for both the Pre- and Post-Master’s Programs at Kaiser Richmond Psychiatry. She also participated in the early discussions of the development of the KPSAHS Master’s in Counseling Program, as a content expert consultant, prior to its opening in 2020.

Beth received her BA in Psychology from Boston College and her Masters in Social Welfare (MSW) from UC Berkeley in 2001.
